Friendship Peak Expedition (5289m)
Overview:
One of India’s most well-known trekking summits is Friendship Peak. At a height of 5,289m the Friendship Peak is one of the top spots to visit in Kullu. The area is regarded as a trekking paradise. This location’s panoramic vista is a visual delight you won’t soon forget. One of the toughest treks in Himachal Pradesh is this one. Since the terrain is so harsh, only individuals with previous trekking experience are permitted to attempt this challenging task.
Here, one can see the stunning Solan Valley, which is home to alpine meadows, dense woods, and vibrant orchards. From the summit, you can see the little streams winding around the valley.
A two-hour journey from Manali brings you to Solang Valley, where the trip begins. You must then begin climbing the mountain until you reach Bakarthach. Dhundi is a last village in Solang valley & near to Manali. Here you can see Beas river which originates from Beas Kund. Drive to Dhindi is via lush green forest. This is a very small village with less population. From here we will start our journey to Bakarthach. It will take approximately 3 Hrs to reach campsite. Distance from Dhundi to campsite is 4Kms.
This trek will go through alpine meadows & coniferous forest of Oak & Walnut. Bakarthach campsite is also part of meadow with full of greenery & surrounded by glaciers & moraines. In this you can see lot of shephards along with their cattle in search of fresh grass during summer. We will enjoy rest of our day at campsite. Dinner willl be served at night.
- About Lady leg: 3kms distance, 5 Hrs | Altitude 3900m
Lady leg campsite is also known as ABC campsite i.e. Advance Base Camp. We will start our day as early as possible as this trail will have lot of rocky patches which increases travel time. Post breakfast we will start our day to achieve the elevation of 3900m.
Campsite resembles with the shape of leg hence, it is known as Lady leg. The distance is not much to reach campsite but due to steep ascend can take little bit extra time. You can see stunning view of various peaks from this campsite such as, Deo tibba, Hanuman tibba & Indrasen peak. Also if you walk in south direction of campsite for 30 mins, you can sea Beas Kund which is the origin of Beas river.
Enjoy rest of your day along with surrounding mighty peaks.
On this day we will rest & train our body to acclimatize at higher altitude. This is a very important day. Because if your body does not acclimatize the headache, vomiting, breathing issues & body pain can create difficulty for the following days & chances of reaching to summit drastically reduces.
We will find snowy area nearby for our training session. In training we will learn snow & ice techniques. Such as how to identify raw, old or semi raw ice or snow patch. How to walk with crampons, use of ice axe & anchoring devices.
Breakfast, lunch & dinner will be done at Lady leg campsite.
Post breakfast same training will continue but with only difference that, we will move towards summit camp with some of our luggage. This will help to use the techniques leant on prior day. Also shifting some of luggage in summit camp will make our next day travel bit easy.
Pack lunch will be given post breakfast. Dinner will be done at Lady leg campsite.
On this day we will move to summit camp. It will take 2 Hrs to reach the summit base. After early lunch we will take rest. As we will start summit it for next day early night.
Staying at summit camp for long duration is not feasible due to its elevation & weather conditions. Decision of head guide & support staff will be final & must be followed due to technicality of this region.
This is the for which we were training our body from past 6 days. We will start our journey for summit at night 2 AM. Sufficient pack lunch, water & dry snacks will be given to each candidate. Journey to summit goes via dry rocky area. In this region due to less vegetation oxygen level is also low. At the same time rocky patches increases travel time. Discipline is very important while traveling from this region. As snowy condition can be tricky due to caravans. Techniques learned on day 4 & 5 will help you while climbing from this region.
We should reach summit early morning by 8 & can see beautiful sunrise from the height of 5200m. This is the magical moment for which you have waited so long. After this we will start our descending journey, as we can not stay on top for long due to oxygen level & sunrays effect. Reach summit camp in 2Hrs. From there we will further descend to Lady leg campsite.
Post breakfast, pack up your luggage & we will depart for Dhundi. By private vehicle reach campsite where we stayed on day 1. It will take 1 Hr to reach campsite. Post lunch certification ceremony will be commenced & Group breaks with sweet memories.
